    what is digging 5-6 inch holes in sloped ditches? There is a pile of dirt next to the hole.

    Probably a Rabbit,sounds abit large for a rat and a bit small for a fox.

    Sounds to me like moles. Or very small dwarves

    This depends on where you live.
    For instance, here in Texas, I would start out with the possibility of an armadillo, a rabbit, or even a rattlesnake. We have lots of such holes on our ranch, and these are the things I have seen from holes like the one you describe.

    I think it could be prarie dogs.

    I have seen grey squirrels dig up the spring bulbs,such as daffodils and such like,they leave a half dug hole just enough to pull out the bulb
