That's MY favorite name. My son is named Max from the picture book "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak.
I always thought your dog's name was Flip. I've seen him do tricks right before my eyes. Heh.Heh.

I saw a dog with a shiny furry mask name Einstein.

I had a wiener dog I got at Christmas time so I named him (St) Nicholas frankfurter.

Boone or Crockett are great names for hunting dogs especially if they have raccoon coloring markings.

Houdini for an escape artist.

Twinkie for a small yellow dog such as a chihuahua.

I believe the Germans think all dogs are male and all cats are female so this name would do for either. (This is what a German woman who worked for me said, anyway)

The breed, size, color, sex...all that matters, plus what the dog's "canine-ality" tells you about him/her helps give the right name to your pet.

Like Grit Savage, I like "regular" names (Judy, Darrell, Ashley, Lucy, Sophie, Tess, Belle, Amos, Penelope, Ernie, Rudy, Hubert, and Clarence have been names for our dogs throughout my life). My friend named her miniature dachshund "Hercules"; we named three puppies after 101 Dalmatians (Patch, Rolly, Lucky), another after The Fox and The Hound...Copper)

A dog will give you an idea of "who" (s)he is; give it some time. Even babies don't always match up the name you've planned for them (My two younger sons went for four days before we agreed on a name that "fit". A man I knew went for a year before his parents finally settled on "Robert" and called him "Bob")
