We get so many "trash" questions here on this site...I don't believe it is the people asking the questions...I think it is the "thingamajig" on the websites that gets us to be so frustrated with the absolutely stupid questions (in our books anyway). Seems like there should be an answer to this particular t ype of frustration...perhaps elimiating the so-called (whatever, I am not too computer literate) application or whatever it is called that states: "ask a question"...anything would be helpful...I love this site...don't want to see it going downhill..there must be a solution....help Mr. Wizard!!!!!!

Bob & Ole Hipster have a good point. If that green "Ask a Question" bar could be moved it would stop 90% of the ridiculous questions. I'm sure most of the fools that abuse this site only press that button out of curiosity & once they are in they just "muck up" because they have no intention of coming back & couldn't care less about being banned.

One day, not too long ago, there was a green bar near the top of my screen that said "Ask A Question" or something. Clicked on it and here I am.
It is alarming, the number of inappropriate, pointless, and crude questions that have appeared over the past few weeks. What are the conditions for particpating here anyway? I was given nothing to read and sign.
One would think the people signed up here would understand the nature of the beast. How is this site "patrolled" anyway? Who's the creator of AKA? Where are the guidelines that we should be using?
I'll help however I can. First step would be to skip the q's that are inappropriate or crude. I can do that.

At one time someone suggested a "test" before you enter this site. Scared the pie outta me at that time. Now, I'd be very willing to take a test. I want those turkeys off this site. It will go downhill if they stay. We need someone to edit them out. I'd volunteer but by computer skills are lacking ... hipster,
would you do it? Contact the Contact people. (bottom of the page)

empty barrels make the most noise.. i did suggest at one point to impose an "iq' test to gain acess perhaps that might have helped or even on of those scrambled word test where you must decipher the word . ithink we all agree most of the questions are down right silly, i guess we do have the option of leaving in which defecting helps us not. personally i do enjoy the intelectual as well as the funny questions as well.. as for me i'll be sticking it out at least for now..

OLe Hipster I agree with you 100%. So many Questions dont make sense and many ask the sameQuestions over and over again and many are downright gross. Many people that are no longer here at least had interesting Questions and it was fun, There are still some interesting Questions but far less though. I think we need to ignore the questions that dont make sense and are gross, then these people wont come back. I myself have posted three Questions, that no one answered, the latest was today. I am wondering why. I know if Leroy was still here that would never happen. I wont be here that much anymore myself.

I like that AkaQA is as open as it is because I know the crew trying to cope with the cascade of Questions and Answers understand our situation and because all this is new for them too, it is challenging to work out the bugs in a system that looks like the java script-Python nightmare of the century. I know those folks are pulling their hair out trying to keep this site on-line and running. And dealing with the data logs and multi-user data base…I am awe struck just thinking about it all.

Colleen seemed to enjoy hot discussions. They were interesting reading but I usually stayed out. I agreed quietly with her on most things.
The "Ask a Question" button on the tool bar is a link to this site. It had to have been made available by the administrators of this site. Unfortunately it is mistaken by many well meaning people as a part of the web site they are on at the time, and they think it will send a question to that site.
I have on a few occasions replied to those that listed their email address (using a generic address of my own), especially if I felt the person's inquiry was important or critical. To date, I have never received a reply back leading me to believe most are not real computer savvy.

don't you guys remember that our moderator ( Colleen) quit ? Maybe that's why it's gone downhill, b/c she used to take off all these lurid, distasteful questions before they hit the screen.

I think she's just resting up from running to higher ground.
Maybe things will get better when she returns.
I wish we could do something in the meantime.
I feel very powerless.
Most are school kids wanting to stir things up and see what kind of response they will get , I've been reporting them and not answering them. I haven't been on here much, maybe when the snow starts to fly again you will see more of me........lol
