Thanks Darci13 for your answer....I too have been wondering about this magic jack thing as I've recently dropped AT&T as my cell phone carrier....they are way too expensive!
Well yeah but I still use them because I use the bundle package on my internet, phone, tv and cell phone and find it to be cheaper. If you talk to them and tell them you are going to drop all their services they will usually offer you a package deal. Have you tried a bundle package? Just a thought?
I purchased a Magicjack over 2 years ago. It works fine if you have a decent broadband connection. I would not use it as the only phone connection I had unless I were destitute and just couldn't afford a land line.
My magicjack was set up here in my area, then sent to family in the Philippines. They can call anywhere in the US and Canada free, and we can call them free.
Requirements are a decent broadband internet connection and a standard telephone. The computer must be turned on. There are other Voip systems that are more expensive but do not require the computer to be on.
