Continent
There are only 21 countries in which chimpanzees live in the wild, all found in Africa. These countries span the width of the continent, though bonobos (a type of chimpanzee) are found only in a small section of Zaire. This is because they're unable to adapt as well to various habitats as the common chimpanzee, and require tropical rainforest.
Habitat
Though bonobos can only live in tropical rainforests, common chimpanzees are able to live in a wide variety of habitats. These include rainforests, woodland areas, swamp forests and a number of other areas. Their main requirement is that there be plenty of trees; they are not often spotted in unforested areas.
