I am most concerned about colon or colorectal cancer. I have had friends with colon cancer and that problem can be easily taken care of if detected early enough. Don't delay any more because this could cost you your life.
A specialist in this field is called a "colorectal surgeon".

THE PROBLEM could be as simple as hemmoroids or as serious as cancer. Like all of our friends before me have urged, get to a doctor as soon as possible. A general practioner can refer you (or whoever) to a specialist as well as run a few quick tests that provide valuable information in the office during the visit.

Wow! Some of these answers are soooo 'Doom and Gloom'... First off, we are not doctors here but the simple answer is --> what color is this blood? If it's bright red, you probably just have hemorrhoids-- They are not necessarily life-threatening but can make life miserable if allowed to grow larger, they are blood vessels. If your blood is a dark 'maroon' color, this means that the bleeding is coming from further up your digestive system. Then--> yes! get to a doctor right away.
If you have the red blood, you should start on metamucil powder, not capsules, and take a 'stitz' bath.. If your 'hems' get to a point where you get pain and or itching, then have it taken care of, there's nothing to it.. Not painful at all to have them removed.

With rectal bleeding ask yourself: 1. Since when, 2. what color (bright red could be hemorrhoids, dark red or coffee colored is higher up in the system. Either way, this warrants seeing an MD or DC for eval. Check the consistency of your Bowel movement, and perhaps get some prunes so soften the "production". Hard stool and straining can cause hemorroids. Prunes will help here naturallhy and give some food benefits. Good luck.
