I loaned this person about $5,000. dollars a year ago and he hasn't tried to pay me back. How do I go about getting my money back. I dont know how to reach him, apparently he moves from place to place, whereever he can find someone to mooch off of. I have tried taking him to small claims, but he has no permanent address to send papers to. I dont know what else to do.

There's very little you can do. Even if you were to take him to small claims court, I highly doubt he'll have the money to pay you back. Then you'd have to go back to court to let them know he hadn't paid...all involving cost on your end. The courts are so backed up and there's not enough law enforcement that small claims matters tend to be the last looked at in getting people to "pay up". So sadly at this point, you'll have to chalk it up to an expensive lesson for you to learn as I highly doubt you'll ever see the money again. $5000 looks more to me like you bought into a scam.

DO YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF LEGAL BINDING CONTRACT? IF SO GET A GOOD LAWER , WHICH IM AM NOT.BUT A GOOD LAWER IS CERTAINLY A STEEP IN THE RIGHT DITECTION. I KNOW SOME LAWERS WILL WORK "PRO BONO WHICH MEANS UNLESS YOU GET SOME KIND OF SETTLEMENT (HOPEFULLY 100%) THEY DO NOT GET PAID EITHER. USUALLY THEY GET ONE THIRD OF THE SETTLRMENT ALTHOUGH YOU TAKE A BIT OF A LOSE ITS STILL BETTER THAN A TOTAL LOST. A GOOD COUNCILER SHOULD ABLE TO TRACK EM DOWN.. CREDIT CARDS, PHONE RECORD...ECT, THEY KNOW ALL THE TRICKS. ON THE OTHER IF HE WAS SUMMONED TO COURT AND DID NOT SHOEW THAT WOULD MEAN THEIR SHOULD BE A WARRENT OUT FOR HIS ARREST. SO HOPEFULLY TIME WILL CATCH UP WITH HIM ... BEST OF LUCK
