    they are scavengers a long with pigs, vultures, buzzards and others

    I think it's because dogs smell in layers.  So if another dog ate rice and chicken for dinner, the poop-eating dog would smell the chicken , then the rice, then I don't know what else is in feces but the dog thinks he's eating chicken and rice not doo-doo.  yvonne57
