Something along the lines of (we are being gracious here, with just a touch of rebuke for taking so long).....

I am so appreciative of the efforts of (name of service organization) for providing me with a (complete description of AC, alerting people to the less-than-efficient size of the thing).  I am indeed fortunate to be able to enjoy the comfort provided by the unit in my (room).

It is important for our community to continue its efforts to provide services to our senior citizens, as well as others who are struggling in the difficult economy affecting all of us.  Many of us, myself included, suffer from health problems along with financial strains.  I have had a heart attack and angioplasty, suffer from neck and back arthritis, and am diabetic.   The heat exacerbates my symptoms, so the air conditioner was really a necessity!

While I am most grateful for the air conditioner, it does concern me that it took (how long you waited for the AC) to provide the unit to me.  Is it possible that others are still waiting for an air conditioner?  Have there been incidences of heat stroke or other heat-related health problems for those who did not receive their air conditioners before the triple-digit temperatures came upon us back in June?

Again, let me again thank you for helping me with the air conditioner, but let me also suggest that every effort be made to provide air conditioners, or heaters when the weather cools, to those of us who are unable to provide such necessary luxuries for ourselves in a timely manner. The ramifications of too much delay could be devastating.
