In today's society, many people believe that independence means having their own income and their own "purchasing power". Being a housewife means that you depend on someone else (i.e. husband) to provide that. Being a housewife and mother is often considered being "less-than". Keeping the house clean, cooking, baking and being home for the children, is left to others....housekeepers, restaurants, bake shops and day care centers.     :(

No reason the choice is yours ,

Anyone who thinks that way should really meet My wife & my middle daughter in particular.

There is no joy for me in working in the interest of others unless they are a friend or loved one in need of my help. Employment in anothers' interest offers me nothing that I value. I work for myself and that more than fills my needs. The woman I love enjoys  the tasks of her own choosing in our home, as well, just as I do. We have household tasks that occupy our day but there no unmet need and we do  the work required of us without consideration of a singular task the other cannot do. I sew, mend and cook, cleanup after myself as she does also. I know the ways of many other persons  deprives them of their own lives, in their own ways, but by their own choice, be it driven by unfortunate circumstance or pride of accomplishment or some secret fear, they do the best they can.    

Money, honey.  To be an independent housewife, you need to have your own financial resources that are sufficient to pay the bills and have some leftover.  Not many have the luxury of being able to tend to the home and family without going outside the home to earn a paycheck.  However, with so many opportunities for people to work at home, it is becoming possible for a housewife/homemaker to also be independent, even without the silver spoon.
