Bob is the pharmacy manager. He has been working at this particular store for nearly 25 years. Linda is the newly hired pharmacy technician and has heard that Bob has certain ideas about running a business and he does not like to be questioned. On her first day at work, Linda observes some practices that to not seem “right” to her. She brings this up to another pharmacist over lunch and is told “not to step on Bob’s toes.” Still, Linda is upset by what she has heard about and
seen – narcotic counts that are not correct and the re-dispensing of returned medication. She does not want to lose her job, but these situations really bother her. What would you do if you were in Linda’s position? Would you deal with the ethical or legal issues first? If Linda said nothing, would she be held accountable if these practices were later exposed?
