No. The reason a gear disengages is due too wear. Depending on the type of gear box this can be wear in the shaft the gears move on, some have steel ball bearings that hold the gear in place if the socket the bearings fit into when you select the gear is worn the ball bearing rides out and the gear disengages. Second gear is usualy the first to give trouble as it is used frequently. Don`t let anyone sell you a new gearbox.
