I think you have something wrong here. Then again, you offer no time line to go by. There were approximately 8 crusades. The time span between the crusades covers centuries. As near as I can figure from what I read on wiki, the 1st crusade was about recapturing Jerusalem and freeing it from Muslim rule. In the second crusade the Jews fought side by side with Christians, the Christians were trying to protected the Jews from crusaders who were persecuting them. By the 3rd crusade, it appears everyone was against the Jews. It's all very complex. I personally do not have the desire to spend hours reading about it all to help give meaning to your question though I do not think men were playing dress up back then pretending to be one and then the other. The crusades were about land and who wold claim it. The crusades never really ended because even today, the fight for the holy lands continues.
