Under the 36 Code of Federal Regulation §2.15 the following is allowed within Voyageurs National Park
Pets are allowed within the park except in undeveloped backcountry land areas such as the Kabetogama Peninsula.
Pets are allowed only on the 2-mile Oberholtzer Trail adjacent to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. Due to the growing public demand for pet use on trails within the park because this trail is close to a highly developed and dense public use area, an exception has been implemented on an experimental basis.
Park staff will monitor pet use and its effect on the visitor experience, sanitation, and the resource.
Dog teams and dog sleds are permitted on frozen lake surfaces within the park when adequate ice and snow conditions are present. However, a written Special Use Permit is required for dog teams and dog sleds traveling on designated snowmobile portages.
All pets must be vaccinated and possess a valid vaccination tag as required by Koochiching or St. Louis County.
All pet excrement must be collected immediately and disposed of in an approved trash receptacle.
