Difference between Cross Trainers and Running Shoes
One of the major differences between the two is the purpose they are meant to serve. The running shoes are basically for running and jogging. Now these shoes are designed in such a way that they help runners propel forward. This is because the design or the pattern of the shoe is such that because of the thick heels or sole, they help in easy forward motion. On the other hand, cross trainers are designed to give stability by evenly distributing the weight, thus improving stability.
Cross Trainers
Cross trainers give more support, and they are designed in such a way that they make you comfortable while engaged in other physical activities. They can help in running by assisting in forward motion, though not as much as running shoes, but then also at the same time they provide lateral support. Hence, they can be seen to be worn by people who play sports like badminton, tennis, squash, etc. They can be considered as all-rounders. Cross trainer athletic shoes are OK for running, but for relatively lesser distances. If used only for running, chances are likely that they may wear out soon. They are also heavier than running shoes. This is one reason why you should avoid using them for running, they might be a little difficult to turn with, putting extra pressure on your heels and ankles.
If you indulge in playing a specific sport like basketball or tennis, then it is suggested to wear sports-specific shoes like tennis shoes or basketball shoes. This is because they give your feet and ankles the support needed to perform specific actions properly without any injuries. They are versatile, and are athletic shoes mostly worn by people who go to the gym. Because, in the gym, you need support to lift weight and also maintain stability at the same time, hence cross trainer sneakers serve the purpose. Also, it is recommended to wear them while doing weight exercises because of their multi-directional support. All of these makes them the best cross training shoes.
Running Shoes
Needless to say, running shoes are meant for running. For athletics and professional sprinters, there are shoes specially designed for this purpose. They are said to be designed in such a way that they have the ability to absorb impacts up to three times the weight of your body. If you must have noticed the design of these shoes, you would know why it is that way. These shoes have supportive heels which are heavily cushioned, and also have treads in a peculiar design, helping you to run forward. It is well cushioned which helps to absorb shocks and also helps preventing injury while running. The tip of these shoes are curved a little towards the front which makes running easy. If you wear either shoes for a while, you'll find that cross trainers are a more comfortable than running shoes. But that is no reason to use them for running, especially long distance running. That's just an injury waiting to happen.
Your choice totally depends upon individual needs and the purpose. Remember that picking a wrong type of shoe may be harmful. Hence, when you go out there to get one, you can ask for help from the salesperson who can help you to get the appropriate pair of shoes.
