Two-stroke oils lubricate the engine as the fuel circulates and burns in the engine. Marine and motorcycle two-stroke oils have biodegrading elements that decrease pollution. Numerous types of oil are available for marine and watercraft use, and the same is true for motorcycle oil. The difference is in the additive packages that suits the oil for a specific application. The use of some marine oils in a motorcycle can result in frequently fouled plugs, increased emissions and potential engine failure.
The Bottom Line Oils can be interchanged to an extent, but the additive packages in oil are tailored for certain applications. Use the correct oil for your application to extend the life of your engine, and to prevent an increase in environmentally damaging emissions.
