What reason do you have to be liberal , conservative , or independent ?

I grew up with parents that are democrats. Old style democrats. They worked hard , saved money, law abiding citizens. The democrat party was the working mans party. Not anymore from my perspective. My first vote was for Reagan. I dont know why. I was 18. I remember thinking who to vote for. The only good common sense choice was Reagan. Now I know why i am conservative. Because of the kind of people that associate themselves with democrat ideas. These days its people that want something for nothing. No personable responsibility. There are a great number of people these days like that. Thats how obama got elected. When these people keep having kids , and these kids inherit this kind of mentality of not working hard and rely on government to survive, is when common sense is not achieved. People have got to learn to support themselves . It is not the governments job to , house or feed a normal healthy individual. That is the new democrat party. I dont know any person who is conservative that lives this way. I know there has to be a few though.

IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU THAT THEY ARE 100% EITHER WAY THEY ARE A LIAR OR A MORON  PEOPLE PICK A SIDE ON A COUPLE OF STRONG CONVICTIONS THEY HAVE.THE TRUTH IS IN THE MIDDLE. FOR EXAMPLE I THINK 99.9% OF PEOPLE THINK ABORTION IS A BAD THING TEY JUST DISSAGREE WITH HOW TO DEAL WITH IT.WE ALL WANT TO CURE CANCER BUT SOME OF US DONT WANT TO SACRIFICE RATS TO DO IT SMART PEOPLE FIND COMMON GROUND EVERY DAY THEY JUST DONT DO IT IN WASHINGTON

Here, here, I am not for any of them. For me, all politicians are crooks and liars who only want to feather their own nests.

Here is the example of what i mean. Democrats - liberals know their values are weak , and dont like being made fun of . Everybody is born a democrat, only the gifted overcome it.

    LOL, but true.

i am a shot from the hip kinda girl... Wink wink..... I vote for the best canidate not thier party.

Zorro, I agree about the last presidential election.  Things happened too fast and I don't believe the best candidate was nominated or won.

I shouldn't make light of political labels but I started out as independant.  My first vote for president was given to Jimmy Carter.  He gave a fireside chat about how America's best days were over and we had very little to look forward to because of over use of our energy supply and so on and so on.  It was a very depressing outlook.  I wanted to die.  Then I got angry and thought about a future if I had any.  It didn't have to be the way he said.  So I decided to live and vote Republican the next time.  It was Reagan.  My life was not in the best shape but we had hope for a better life.  The country got hope and things looked better.  I thought about the parties and what they believed and I fit more in the republican than democrat thinking by then.  I have been a Republican ever since.  My family before was independant and voted for the person over party.  I have my favorite candidate and will vote for that one in the primary and whoever is oposed to obama in November because I don't like the way he is doing.  His views are so different than what I believe.  I have given my position a lot of thought and try to keep up on current events.  I have asked dems why they believe the way they do and usually don't get a civil answer.  It is usually how stupid I am for not being the same as they are.  That isn't a reason, it is an opinion.

I think people are voting for not what they think is best , but voting against what they dont like. I dont like the people associated with democrat party, or their values. I sure as hell didnt like last republican nominee. McCain was lesser of all evils. We need a true leader.

Trust me.. you're on the right track now. Keep on with your views and we may still have a great country once again.

Liberal, Conservative, and Independant are all part of being Americans. We all have differences, but when it comes to the country, most of us agree about generally, everything.

The far left or progressives have made things more difficult by wanting personal issues brought into public forums like the school systems. Also, they publically speak out against others beliefs in God, or issues of sexuality of those who are heterosexual and descriminate on others rights. These are issues that should not be considered part of the learning system we have in educational system. The right for parents to discuss these matters are being overlooked and we don't need government to tell us how to raise our children. They need to butt out.

Conservatives, on the other hand, basically are the moral majority. We are against open perversion of sexuality and teaching our kids that it is a natural thing when it isn't. It is already stated in the Constitution that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Next thing will be the teaching of how to use drugs properly. As if this isn't already happening. Sooooo sad.

I am an Independent and think both sides are doing a terrible job in the house , so don't be so proud of them . I am an Independent because the independent always has the final say and is the deciding factor at the end of it all . I am not pleased with any of them so far .
