Get a bark collar. It gives him a mild shock each time he barks. Shock collars are unofficially regulated by the aspca to ensure they are not harmful or abusive to the animal. I have a beagle who barked and howled at squirrels. I taught him not to do so by just calling him in when he got barking. He wanted to be outside. He learned that if he barked, he had to come in. Now if he barks, I just say his name and he stops. This took a couple of months though.
