Just tell her what you've just told us.  Tell her that you'd like to have a better relationship but she must keep things confidential  when you tell her.  Keeping promises is what trust is based on.

My relationship with my Mother was not as good as it should be as I was a Daddys girl and my brother was a mommys boy if I could undo the things things what happened it would be Never tell thibs be honest and tell your mom you love you very often and respect her as she is the only Mom you will ever have and give her hug even when sometimeyou are right and she is wrong beause she will relize that she is wrong and make it up to you good luck

remember , just because she is your mother doesn't mean she is always correct. Grown ups dont always make good decisions. Dont argue , even though you might be right. It wont solve anything. .Just let it go. This is where you learn how to cope with problem solving techniques .Learn how to say calming ideas. In college i paid a high fee to go learn about sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. To make a very long story short, i learned how to get in contact with a persons psychological being. When you talk calmly to your mother , you are controlling her.You dont know that, but you do. Once you learn this ,you will learn how to control other people to get what you desire. The techniques i learned is way above your head, but i can make suggestions to co workers and they usually comply. Just learn to communicate , calmly.
