PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A new survey shows Rhode Islanders are paying a winter-record high price for home heating oil, again.
The state Office of Energy Resources collected information from 41 oil dealers on Monday and determined the average price of home heating oil was $4.08 a gallon. The Providence Journal reports the price ties a record-high price for the winter set nearly a year ago.
The national average price for home heating oil was $4.17 a gallon last week, according to the latest federal government data.
Heating oil prices in Rhode Island hit an average of $4.75 a gallon in the summer of 2008 during a spike in crude oil prices.
The latest state survey showed heating oil prices ranged from $3.70 a gallon to $4.94 a gallon.
