Don't ya love it! Another Dooms Day prediction! I think 2012 is the next Dooms Day or celebration year. I'm all for celebration...the 1984 Dooms Day Suckers Survivors Gala was memorable. And then, well, there have been so many Galas, Bashes and Burning Man that some of these parties are becoming annual events. Such fun! It was so memorable when everyone purchased household power plants so we cold drink cold beer when the world would predictably end...so many generators for sale the next year. Some folks have Dooms Day as part of their religion and collect a years supply of food for use when Dooms Day happens. I was recently given 20 5 gallon buckets of these provisions that had become inedible and I spread it in my garden to compost and it was great fertilizer. I think we should have a Chocolate Dooms Day...oh, we just had that, Its called Valentines Day...the Doom part of that is that our hips and gut are distended by the consumption of excessive quantities of chocolate. Doom Day Chocolate on the Last Valentines Day. Last..Last...Last...until next year.

The Mayan Calendar ends in 2012. Many speculate that this is due to an apocalypse on the horizon. There is nothing to state it is the end of the earth. It is just simply as far as they went with it. Maybe they either all died, moved on or both before they were able to go any further.
Here is a copy and paste of some interesting facts:-
2012 and the Long Count calendar
Scholars say that the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar was likely not invented by the Mayans, but it's become closely associated with the Mayan civilization and is still used by today's Mayans, who live in parts of Guatemala, Belize and Mexico.
Dates on the Long Count calendar -- which begin at the "zero date" when the creation began about 5,000 years ago, according to the Mayans -- is divided into five components that are roughly bundled in units of 20: 20 days make up a uinal, 18 uinals make up a tun, 20 tuns make up a katun, and 20 katuns make up a baktun.
For example, the date Feb. 26, 2011, on the internationally used Gregorian calendar would be written as 12.19.18.2.14 -- 12 baktuns, 19 katuns, 18 tuns, 2 uinals and 14 days -- on the Mayan Long Count calendar.
Dec. 21, 2012, marks the end of the 13th baktun on the Long County calendar, which reads 13.0.0.0.0. This date has conjured up a fair amount of apocalyptic, end-of-the world predictions, but many Mayans argue that such prophecies are false, and that the end of the baktun simply marks a time of great transition.

No man knows the day or the hour ( Thanks Judy ), but so many try. But we can know the signs and signs are everywhere, including unbelievers.
