The evergreen clematis is also known as Armand’s Clematis or Armand Clematis. It is in the Ranunculaceaefamily, which means the Ranunculus family (or the “buttercup” family). Its genus is clematis, which is Ancient Greek for “vine.” Its species name is armandii, named for Pere Armand, a French missionary and plant collector during the nineteenth century. The evergreen clematis originates from China where it grows into trees and flowers at the very top. It is frequently found in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, despite that being an area where evergreens are often harder to find than in more southern climates.
