obama doesn't see need for us to do our own space work.  He is willing to give the Russians and Chinese all the money we would have spent and 2 times more to keep the space station open. 

It is a shame too.  We have had more modern conveniences come from the space work than most know about.

The space program is about evolving technology. We learn a better way to do everything that was cobbled together as experimental projects that we have learned can be produced cheaper, easier and better by other processes that did not exist before we started to work on these projects. Eventually it becomes obvious that the continuance of the old expensive project would be foolish when comparing the cost of new technology to old technology. So we abandon the old ways and embrace the new way when doubts of the benefits of doing this fall away. 

Will the space programs continue? Yes, and expand to include a greater diversity of technology.
