    I have a replacement element for my stove which has 3 connection tabs. The original has only 2. What is the third connector for?

    You have bought the wrong element for your stove.Do not try to fit a 3 terminal element to a 2 terminal fixture.Take it back & exchange it.Take ALL the details you can find on your stove when you return it,Model number,serial number etc.
