          A guy here in Queensland does it with a camera mounted on a kite.It's cheap & quite effective.I've seen some of the results.

            If it is just maps or aerial photo copies of a specific location, and doesn't have to be exactly current, you can go to the nearest USDA-FSA office (Farm Service Agency) and request one.  Look in the Blue Pages of your phone book, or on line for location nearest to you.  That is if you are in the USA.
