How many calories are you supposed to be eating? Because firstly, 200 grams of protein amounts to 1400 calories (there are 7 calories per gram in protein). If you're only eating 1500-2000 calories a day, then you're using most of them for protein. Secondly, 200 grams of protein is way over what's recommended for a balanced diet. If you're in over-all good health (no history of kidney problems), then it should be okay short-term. A balanced diet should have 20% fat, 30% protein, and 50% carbohydrates. So if you're eating 2000 calories per day, you need 600 calories worth of protein, which is 86 grams. A temporary high-protein diet will definitely help you lose weight, because high-protein foods like eggs, salmon, chicken, turkey, and tuna will keep your glycemic index low (causing you to burn more fat for energy), and your body has to work harder to digest proteins than it does fat or carbohydrates. It will also help you keep from losing muscle mass on a low-calorie diet. Good luck in your endeavor!
