how long does metformin take to work

I recently started on metformin. I'm only taking half of a 500 mg pill to start out with. I am to work up to taking 500 mgs twice a day. I dont think what i'm taking now is going to help much as evidence of today i drank some pepsi and it shot up to 151 after two hours! sucks...I love pepsi! so does anyone know how long it will take to help lower my blood sugar once i get to the 500 mg dose?

You may notice improvement in your blood glucose control in 1 to 2 weeks, but the full effect of blood glucose control may take up to 2 to 3 months. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about this.

Metformin in addition to its benefits in reducing blood sugar may also help weight loss and possibly have  anti-aging properties.
