    I think it had something to do with war time. There has not been a enough whole blood to put in a soldier out there in the field,So  they put plasma in his veins .And that would keep him alive by keeping his veins open, until they could get him whole blood. Another medical  advance made by war is that they're developing better and better prosthesis- es  Some are computerized now to anticipate the person's move. And they 're more flexible.
