Systems of equations can be solved by graphing, using substitution, or elimination. What are the pros and cons of each method? Which method do you like best? Why? What circumstances would cause you to use a different method?

This is a difficult question for a lot of the experts (in opinion and looking up stuff) to respond to effectively.

When I solve for an unknown, I work through the equation, trying to get the unknown on one side of the equals sign and the known value on the other.

I'm not a big fan of graphing.  It is cumbersome, time-consuming, and I don't understand how that would solve an equation in the first place.

Substitution works for me only if I can't work through the order of operations and reach my goal (unknown = specific value)

For me, methodically working my way through the equation is my first choice; it is ordered and logical, and easily verified.
