    Is it treatable, and with what?

    It is caused by a tick. Yes it is treatable with medication.

    Have you had experience with this disease or know someone who has? I understand that it is not covered under our medical system in canada. So a person is on their own as far as treating the disease.

    Lyme is a bacterial illness.  The disease is named after the town Lyme, Connecticut where a number of cases were identified.  It can cause abnormalities in the skin, joints, heart and nervous system.  Most cases of Lyme disease are curable with antibiotics.
