If you are specifically interested in muscle definition you should check out body building, it has a different focus than weightlifting. Although many people confuse the two, they are actually very different in their approach and focus, and the routines are vastly different to achieve bulking, refining, and shaping. The diets for each are very different also, as in body building they are very concerned with reducing body fat to its least amount. Believe it or not, it can be fun, but you should have someone to teach you how to do it properly or you run the risk of hurting yourself. Years ago I use to be into it.

For muscle definition rather than bulk, do numerous repitions with lower weighgts. This will give you good muscle definition, but only if you also reduce your amount of body fat at the same time. (If you have a lot of fat, this is going to hide your muscles.) Reducing your body fat requires a high-protein low-fat diet. If your body is resistant to losing fat, then add in a cardio routine like running or working out to a dance video. Women's bodies hang on to fat much more easily than men's.
