"Every one needs a dog to adore him, and a cat to bring him back to reality."
Cats, without a doubt are twice as smart.

Dogs probably bring more bouncy joy (If that's what you want)
Me: I like a smart cat - spooky smart. Warm, Furry, Purry, Soft Fur, Fluffy.
Dogs

I used to have a cat that gently tapped me on the face every morning to wake me up. Dogs & cats are both very clever in different ways.

Come on people get with the program, cats are probably ok for cat lovers who want something to feed and have a purr in thanks. Or maybe an endangered bird species on the door mat.
Seriously, when was the last time a police man said"stay still or I will release the cat".
With regards working out problems I had a Rottweiler at puppy school and on "graduation" day the trainer gave my pups lead to the trainers adult Rottie who took my pup for a walk with the lead in his mouth. My pup went to one side of a bush the adult dog to the other, the adult dog dropped the lead walked around the bush picked up the lead and walked on. Let`s see a cat do that.

Even tho' I have cats, I will tell you that dogs are definately smarter. The dumbest dog makes my middle cat, Molly look like Eienstein. Dogs have the ability to do deductive reasoning; and not many cats show that. A dog is one of the few animals that will follow your finger to the direction that you're pointing in. If you point to something on the floor, that you want a cat to eat, she/ he doesn't get it, but a dog will.
