Perhaps the position of the key is enough to turn the vehicle off, but does not align to where it needs to be in order for it to release the key. I know on one of my vehicles, the ignition is worn enough, that I can shut the vehicle off, and still run windshield wipers, and windows, while not being able to remove the key until I manually line the switch up to the shut-off position.

    Is your vehicle in "Park"?

    sounds like bad switch...

Try moving the steering wheel back and forth wile pulling on the key. If your on a bind this will happen sometimes.

I agree with flip is the car in Park and hand brake applied?
