    Not Biblical 'evidence' please.

Years ago, when I had no belief in the possibility of it at all, nor ever having heard of the possibility of it from anyone...I had an out of body experience. I thought of it as being so odd, that for probably over thirty years I never mentioned it to anyone.

Then, some years back, I dreamt of seeing an envelope that I had never laid eyes upon in my life. It was otherwise absolutely impossible to know of its existence. Then it came in the mail the next day. The sight of that actual envelope shocked me like nothing in this life ever has. I was unaware of the ramifications of that letter, but it proved to be life altering for me.

Then, there was a time, that I had this odd urge to pick up a newspaper. So, I did. The odd thing of it was, I never took the time to read a newspaper, I just never did. After purchasing the newspaper, I read through it, and came to the obituary section. In reading it, I came upon the obituary of a man who was like a lifesaver for me as a kid who grew up with two alcoholic parents. I know many people would say that was just a coincidence, but it's hard not to look at these events and not at least wonder of the possibility of there being more than what we experience everyday.

I don't profess to know all the answers, or to know anything as to why these things occurred to me...but, the events have left me with a certain feeling that there is perhaps more to life than what we see of it during our every day experience.

Years later, I read a book written by a doctor who had some patients that were able to describe things that they should have had no knowledge of during near death and out of body experiences. It was funny, as I happened to have picked the book up off from a table in a library due to a feeling that I should just pick that book up for some reason. Life is funny, for although we might know a lot about the world around us...it doesn't neccesarily mean we know everything.

There are several book out where people have experienced things that seam to prove the story of life after death. Children have talked of a God like experience after a near death experience. I myself have had some happen to me, that could be called a dream or something else but I know better.

i guess it all comes down to faith..

There is no proof, but I have had an out of body experience in a hospital when I was very ill.

Oh, I was admitted to the hospital emergency with a viral pneumonia. I was lying in the emergency cubicle when I was suddenly somwhere else. I could see a silver cord or tube from my me to my body. Someone was with me and he was speaking to me. Everything was dark because he was showing me the universe. I had no thoughts and felt an incredible love pouring out from me continually. I don't remember what the voice was saying. I woke up the next morning feeling much better. And still the love was there. It lasted for one year and gradually faded away. During the time of the experience, I felt like one of those angels with the big wings. Maybe I'm an arch-angel in disguise, hah, hah.

Wow! what hospital was this I have to get some of that stuff.

I remember my life before I chose to be born a child here. I see spiritual beings all the time. I know that those who cannot see what I do, have chosen to believe they cannot see anything that is not physical and in common agreement with others. Believe as you will, no one will ever force a skeptic to see anything they have not chosen to see. Belief makes perception and the few years of time a person has here can be spent any way you have chosen.  There is no evidence of life after death that can be seen and understood as evidence of life after death by anyone who has chosen not to see that as relevant and true. The mind is like a mad tyrant enforcing your choice on all you see. You gave it all the power it has over you and it would die rather than betray that trust. It is you who determines what reality is to you.

Very good point and it makes sense.

Thanks Robert..do you mind if I borrow this explanation the next time someone says that 'ghosts' I prefer 'spirits' aren't around? People think I either do drus or am nuts!

This kind of question intrigues me.I dont follow a religion but am convinced theres another life after this one.Few years ago i went to see a medium, never met the woman before or since but some of the stuff she told me was incredibly accurate.

leos.. If you might indulge us. Just what did you find to be incredibly accurate ???
    Headless Man

Don't play with the dark side.
    PEOPLELOVER

No don`t play with the dark side you may find the truth.
    Headless Man

You may find part truths and that can lead to problems.

hi pioneer .3 things that come to mind:she gave me a womans( very unusual )name but said i didnt like her-it was my late mother in law.She also gave me the full name of a man id taken care of at work, his message was thank you for looking after me ,i know it sounds awful but id forgotten all about him, hadnt thought about him for years. But the nicest one was when she said shed got a man with "the biggest  black alsatian ive ever seen",it was my Dad and that particular dog died before i was born ,i know my Dad thought the world of him and used to describe him as "the size of a donkey".Theres a lot more than that and if you remind me please pioneer ,ill hunt out that years diary as its in there. And dont forget, that medium had never seen me before in her life

    pioneer2

leos.. Hmmmmm. Interesting. And you say she actually gave you your mother-in-laws name ????

A book well worth reading is "life after life" by,i think,Raymond Moody.Try and get hold of a copy

No evidence for life after death. (only Bible give us a hope for life)

Gives YOU hope, not "us". Some of "us" do not believe in it.

Me I have a few theroies but no firm cmmitment.

    My theroies.

We just rot away like anything else animal or plant. End of story.

There could be a parallel universe we go over into and just our remains rot away. So called spirits could be a slip in the division between the two universes.

We come back as a animal we love, a dog in my case. Anybody read"The Art of Racing in The Rain" by Garth Stein? It is a story from a dogs perspective. It is the story of Enzo the dog and his human Denny, a race car driver. Please read it , If you are like me it will bring you to tears of joy and sadness. The book was published in the USA in 2008 by Harper Collins Publishers.

I do not believe in the harps and angels concept. I believe this is fairy floss to encourage people to believe in a certain way for the financial gain of the churches and control of the masses by the same group.

I dont think that churches have the same financial, gain as some of the main Wankers, sorry Bankers,
    PEOPLELOVER

Sorry to disagree but that is what life is about.Banks have a responsibility to their shareholders to make a profit . NO I do not hold Bank Shares.
The churches spend the congregations money as the church feels fit and not neccessarily for the good of their "investors', (Read congregation) nor with a meeting of share holders

Peoplelover, I think you got it spot on with the first line of your theories.

    Don't think there is any.

    no evidence

I have experienced a couple of things that given me some hope that something awaits after death. The biggest problem with experiencing or hearing of the afterlife is that we can never be 100% sure that it will be their again or was this something that only could be experienced because the brain was involved. To be honest other than a lucky few a 50-50 chance is best we can find for any kind of evidence. I have no religious faith but I do somehow believe in a higher power with all my heart. I feel the same way as PEOPLELOVER that everything for one reason or the other has been done for financial gain or power so churches are not for me so the harps and angels concept is not for me.

I will come back and let you all know, watch this space, might take a few years tho.

I dont know but I know Im afraid of computers that hard.

There are too many people who have "died" and been revived experiencing nearly identical circumstances during that period when they were clinically dead.  One recent book (and I can't remember the name) is about a young boy who has an operation.  When he awakes, he tells his mom and dad EXACTLY what they were doing and where they were during his operation. He describes people in the operating room....people he had not seen when awake.  He talks about someone who is with him during this experience, but has trouble describing the person,    At some later point, a girl he has never met insists that she has seen Christ. she draws a picture of Him. The boy sees the picture (again, I wish I could remember the name of the book) someplace, and announces to his dad, "This is the person who was with me."
On the home front, I know a couple of people who have died and been revived.  Their experiences are a bit different, but the end result is the same.....both were told by "someone" they were going back to their bodies to finish their tasks.

I think we  mostly duck our heads and say yes there is more.  Duck our heads so we are not standup wrong if proven non-existant.    In the mean while "I" can hope there is more and find comfort in this.  If proven wrong at last second of life I only have one second of realization to contemplate.

There is no proof. It is up to you really. Most religions believe in heaven and hell. The Greeks or the Romans (can't remember who) believed that if you died in battle you would go to heaven if you didn't you would go to hell.

    Yonmon

Must be lots of dead soldiers up there then.
    nanabarb

Ah! but their is proof.Read "Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. He was a non believer who TRIED to prove Jesus not only didn't exist, but that the resurection wasn't possibe. You will change your mind when you read all the historical proof he found.

None. You either believe it or you don't. I find comfort in believing that there is an eternal life.

some akaqa members will continue to be active members :)

Well, you, I and everyone else is proof of that.

Everyone,  read "Case for Christ" or watch it on Netflix. Either way you won't think there is no proof anymore.
