Date on the upper right hand of the check.  Then, after "Pay To The Order Of" you write the name of the person you are making the check to; or you simply write "CASH", in which case anyone can cash it.  At the end of that line is $.  Write in the amount you want the check to be in numbers only, no words.  Next line after "AMOUNT OF" you write in words the dollar amount of what you want the check to be.  For example, two hundred and sixty eight.  then, just above the spot that is blank over a slash and 100, you write in the pennies.  Finally, on the bottom line at the ""MEMO" part, you write a short note of what the check is for, for instance, "electric bill, January"  Last thing you do is sign the check with your name on the bottom right hand corner.  You're done.

It behooves you to go to your bank and have someone there show you how.  Additionally, make sure that your handwriting is legible and all the blanks filled in.  You want the bank to process all the checks written to your payees.
