Apparently it's the fructose in onions that causes stomach gas. Try cooking onions in a little oil until they're soft before adding them to foods - that will partially break down the sugar. Or steam them first. Also, reduce the amount you eat. A little onion goes a long way in my experience.
You can also try cooking onions with stomach gas-alleviating spices like ginger, cumin, cardamom, caraway, turmeric, fennel, asefoetida (hing). Asefoetida is extremely strong, just use a small pinch, and heat it first in oil to reduce bitterness. It also can be an onion substitute for people who can't do onions.

Colleen's right you really can loose the flavor when you add a spice, not completely though, I would recommend cumin if you like it. Cumin goes pretty well with onions.
No, but they give me gas. I avoid tem as much as possible. I use fresh garlic instead. I love garlic

not for me. one health doctor said we should about 1/4 to a 1/2 cup of onions a day. I think that's one of the things that gave my dad a long life. mom sliced him raw onions with meals, mostly dinner and he was strong and healthy til he died at 86 years old from a leg blood clot. dr. oz said to prevent blood clots, eat raisins. i eat them everyday. my dad got too sedatary the last 5 years of his life. get up every hour, says the experts, even if you just walk and look out the window and back to the tv. my dad loved tv. he would say he was a tv addict.
