Anyone know exactly how to connect a Garmin GPS (motorbike) to both helmets via bluetooth?

Partner and I like to be in contact with each other all the time via bluetooth on our motorbike helmets. We have recently purchased a Garmin GPS system for the bike but cannot successfully connect it to both helmets. We manage to connect one helmet to GPS but that means we aren't in contact with each other. It means starting off our journey connected to each other and then when we need to know the route to take we have to pull in and disconnect from each other and connect the one helmet to the GPS. Does anybody know an easy way of dealing with all this?

You should note the physical limitations of bluetooth. Class 2 devices have a range of about 10 meters, or around 30 feet.
