Maybe it will get on the road and get run over.  They are a marsupial. They are ugly and like carrion. They are hard to kill. Some shoot them in the head.  I don't kill any animal besides mice. I try to shoo them away because husband will shoot any invader.

    Kill nothing!

Had a possum coming in through the cat door to eat cat food. I called and called and learned not only is there no one to catch it, I couldn't live trap it and move it to a new area! I decided to live trap it and poke it to death with a stick but, never caught the durn thief......

    doolittle

    good. I'm glad you didn't.
    jhharlan

I was sleeping outside and the damn thing WALKED over me to get to the cat food!!!!! yuck....
    jhharlan

That was against the rules. Besides, I would have found great pleasure in poking it to death. It was a youngster, too. Parents should have taught him better......
    doolittle

did you pet it when it walked on you..prob. would have hung with you (after the catfood).
    jhharlan

I was sound asleep. Was sleeping outside 'cause we had no elec. and it was cooler. I was by the cat door, I KNOW it had to crawl over me. Damn they're ugly....and greedy, too.....

Lemme tell ya...Doolittle is not gonna like this one eensy beensy bit and if I were you I would...rrrrruuunnnnnnnn!

Just how many babies are in a litter? See them in the nice farmers corn field? Wonder how much of that will they eat? The babies are cute though!
    lindilou

It's probably gmo corn anyway...wonder how many people gonna eat that stuff...besides, fruits and seeds and bulbs etc. make up only 10% of their diet...varmints! I've never seen them tho' am told they are on this island. ;)
    doolittle

So cute! Thanks fr the link her!
    doolittle

What an adorable picture. I wish we had opossums where I live. Used to have them in Ct.

Don't please. Possums are good/usefull animals to have around..

    clu

I guess, if you have dead things laying around that need to be eaten. Every living thing thing has a use ,BUT some I don't see the advantage-- Like mosquitoes!
    doolittle

val- thanks for pointing this Q out to me!!!
    lindilou

...beyond cute and straight on through to adorable!!!
    Ann

They have a very short life span- up to three yrs. in the wild. , are highly resistant to diseases and dont bother anyone.

DOOLITTLE DOES NOT LIKE THIS Q ONE BIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a possum hanging out in my yard (no tail)..she got pregnant and had her babies in my attick and stayed there with them for a couple of months...she needed to- without a tail she couldn't raise the little ones in a tree.  She continued to hang out and wander around- especially when here babies were grown...Never hurt me or any of my pets!!!

DO NOT KILL ANIMALS!  There is not Earthy reason to destroy an opposum unless it is showing clear signs of rabies- then let animal control decide!!!!

    lindilou

    Dammit! (Thanks Doc!)
    jhharlan

Animal control wouldn't do a durn thing....I called them, the police, I think even the fire dept.. Was only told I couldn't relocate it. Isn't that the pits?
    lindilou

I saw this and it raised my "Doolittle" ire to the max...look at 'em!! Who would harm these little ones?? Bad bad people...shame for shame I say Doc! My children have seen them here but not I...they are so stealth...speaking of stealth..on a walk along the creek this morning discovered 3 massive barefoot Bigfoot tracks which freaked my friend right out! She was looking over her shoulder after that!! Got a wood knock response a few days ago as well as hearing them "talking" along the banks near a railway trellis...this move is more interesting than I thought!!! Aha!! Whoop! :)
    lindilou

OMG I hadn't taken that into consideration...so wearing my gorilla suit is a big no-no then??
    lindilou

lmao yet...running....now there's a terrifying thought!!!! No wonder they say 'whoop' !!
    (short for whoopie!) ;D
    lindilou

...it's all I can do Doo!!! lol
    lindilou

Yeh...they're messing with me now...tree knocks...answering back my Ravenese..too cool!
I'll have to start taking treats...they love sweets so maybe something natural eh? Suggestions? I'm thinking maple syrup something or honey somethings? They are also said to love peanut butter!! :)
    lindilou

...and now I'm hungry...great idea!...gotta run now ...take it EASY! :)

Dont kill opossums. They are very useful animals. They eat garden snails, slugs, insects, snakes, rats and overripe fruit

They are no public health threat, resistend to rabbies and infections and diseases. They are very clean and groom themselves like a cat doesThey are nocturnal, solidary and do not hibernate.

So why would you want to kill an opposum? For fun, for sport? Leave them alone.
